Definition of Success
The real opportunity for success lies within the person and not in the job. - Zig Ziglar
A lot of us, including myself, equate success with what we achieve at work. However, the success is really how the person views where they are and what they get out of their life.
Let me start with my success in my personal life. I am a Mother of two beautiful kids. Am I successful as a mother? I think so. I have provided the basic necessities and more to my kids. I am there to look after them when they're sick or having a bad day. I have also raised to be independent so they can do life's basic tasks - cooking, cleaning and looking after themselves. Both of them contribute positively to the community we live in. We recently had a parent teacher interviews at my son's school. One of the teacher started with 'You have truly raised a wonderful human being.' Another teacher said we had a fund-raiser for Men's Mental Health today during lunch and your son contributed a pretty significant donation and distributed pizza to his classmates. As I talked to my son, I realized the amount spent on Donation was enough for him to buy an xbox game. My eyes were swelling with pride because he made the right choice. Definitely made me feel successful as a Mother.
For the past couple of years, I had been equating my success at work with the Title at the job. I am starting to change that perspective any count my success as the learning I do at my job. I'm back to being grateful at bedtime with the things I learned at work today. Sometimes, it can be as simple as I learned to be more assertive today. I am blessed to have these opportunities to learn everyday!
